OnePlus has been founded at the end of 2013, and the company has released three smartphones thus far. The OnePlus One was the company’s first handset, and was released back in 2014. This smartphone has managed to create a lot of hype for OnePlus, and was considered to be one of the best devices of 2014. Unlike the OnePlu 2 and OnePlus X which were announced last year, OnePlus One shipped with Cyanogen OS originally. At one point OnePlus and Cyanogen decided not to continue their partnership, and OnePlus developed their very own Android skin, Oxygen OS, which is extremely close to Google’s stock Android offering.
That being said, OnePlus One users could choose whether they want to stick with Cyanogen OS, or update to Oxygen OS. In case you opted to stick with Cyanogen OS, you probably know that Cyanogen OS 12.1.1 update started rolling out to this handset earlier this week. Now, we’ve already reported that Cortana is part of the mix here, but it seems like there’s more to it than we thought. The file opening dialog in Cyanogen OS 12.1.1 actually promotes Microsoft’s applications in a way, even if you don’t have them installed, which is very, very odd. So, for example, if you try to open a .doc file, the file opening dialog will offer you various app options (those that are compatible and can open that file), but the first option you’ll get will be Microsoft Word. Now, some of you might think uninstalling Cortana will solve this ‘problem’, but it does not, even if you deinstall Cortana, you’ll still be getting these suggestions.
This would be very odd even if you had Microsoft’s applications installed, but considering there are not even on the device, we can understand if some users find this annoying. OnePlus did not mention this will be happening when they announced the update is rolling out, which is kind of odd as well. We do hope there are no additional such surprises available here, but in case something pops up, we’ll make sure to let you know, as usual.
