Qualcomm Introduces 'AptX HD' High-Resolution Audio

As high-resolution displays gain in popularity, likewise for the demand of better sounding products increases. One of the very first attempts at marketing high-resolution audio was in 1995 dubbing it High Definition Compatible Digital, resulting in many optical discs like CD-DA or even DVD-Audio being manufactured. Now over the last many years there has been a mad rush for these products in many industries such as smartphones, personal computers, and audio headphone markets. With this ever increasing demand for better sounding devices comes technological advances from many companies. One of these in particular, announcing at CES 2016, that they have introduced a solution that meets the technological demands of the already fast pacing tech space.

Qualcomm introduces aptX HD (High Definition). Building off the original audio codec platform which revolutionized the Bluetooth stereo listening experience by supporting CD-like quality audio over a wireless connection to meet the high demand for audio technology, Qualcomm has enhanced its new audio through various techniques resulting in its finished product aptX HD. Its newly enhanced codec audio now supports 24-bit music quality over Bluetooth from the original 16-bit aptX codec. It all operates on the existing key properties of the aptX that have been seen across the globe for a while now. While bringing with it the 24-bit audio input, the 24-bit audio resolution is maintained by using an extra two bits of each of the four sub-bands of processing. The result is lower signal-to-noise ratio, which is the signal strength relative to background noise. This processes through the encode/decode cycle and produces less distortion making aptX HD one heck of an audio solution for future tech gadgets.

Available immediately, aptX HD can be found in part with CSR8675 Bluetooth audio SoC (system-on-chip) platform which will be able to support the 24-bit audio end-to-end. Providing increased DSP (digital signal processing) performance and more capable I/O subsystems than any of its predecessors, CSR8675 will bring aptX HD to many Bluetooth headset devices and other future devices such as smartphones rather quickly. Launching first on tablets, smartphones, media players, and anything running on the Android platform, aptX HD will soon be seen on many future devices sometime in the course of the next year. With CES featuring many new tech gadgets, aptX HD should be a highly anticipated piece of tech among all audiophiles across the world.
