U.S. Cellular Reportedly Rolling Out Android 6.0 To The LG G4

US Cellular is reportedly rolling out Android 6.0 Marshmallow to the latest flagship smartphone from LG Electronics – the G4. Sprint rolled out the update to the G4 back in the middle of December, but so far, none of the other major carriers in the country have followed suit. Nor is there any word from AT&T, Verizon or T-Mobile about when G4 users on their respective networks can expect the update to start rolling out. Canadian carrier Rogers, meanwhile, has given an end-January ETA for the update to go live on its network. Meanwhile, according to Droid-Life, the new software apparently started rolling out on Monday itself.

As is the norm, the update is probably being rolled out in phases, so it should hit all users on US Cellular soon enough, if it hasn’t already. For those yet to receive the notification, but eager to get the new software on their respective handsets, head on over to Settings > About Device > Common > Update Center > Software Update to see if the roll out process has begun in your region just as yet. The update comes with the version number US99120b, with US-991 being the model number for the US Cellular model of the LG G4. As for Marshmallow, it is, of course the latest major version of Android from Google, and comes with some nice features like an app permissions manager, native support for fingerprint scanner, Google Now on Tap, an all-new app drawer, more intuitive volume controls and of course, the battery saving feature called ‘Doze’ that disables network access for low-priority apps when the phone’s not in use.

The LG G4 is last year’s flagship smartphone from the South Korean consumer electronics company, as mentioned already. The device features a curved 5.5 inch Quad HD (2560 x 1440) display, and is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 808 SoC. The smartphone comes with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of built-in storage. The device comes with a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera capable of recoding 4K videos at 30 fps and an 8 megapixel front-facing camera capable of recording 1080p videos at 30 fps. The removable battery in the G4 is rated at 3,000 mAh, and connectivity options for the device include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and Cat.6 LTE. The LG G4 comes with Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box, with LG’s proprietary Optimus UI laid on top.
