HTC’s tablet portfolio is extremely light compared to other companies like Samsung, with their most recent offering being the Nexus 9 tablet that launched back in 2014. While rumors circulate of HTC being invited back to the Nexus program by Google for a production of two Nexus smartphones for 2016, another rumor based on leaked benchmark details that have surfaced over on GFXBench suggests that HTC could be working on a new tablet that would be part of their Desire line. Labeled currently as the HTC IV5001-A and thought to be the Desire T7 tablet, HTC could be looking to target low-end device buyers if the listed specifications on the benchmark data is anything to go by.
As the name portrays, the Desire T7 would come with a 6.9-inch (basically 7-inch) display, and the benchmark data reveals that the tablet screen will come with a 1280 x 720 resolution, making it HD but not Full HD. Aside from the display, the Desire T7 is also listed as running Android 5.0 Lollipop software, but given the existence of Android 6.0 Marshmallow on devices now and the fact that HTC is already using that version of software on phones, it’s possible that the Android version on the Desire T7 could be bumped up once production starts, assuming HTC launches this tablet in the first place.
The Desire T7 also boasts a quad-core Cortex-A7 CPU clocked at 1.3GHz, alongside an ARM Mali-400 MP2 dual-core GPU. Memory is listed at 0.9GB which puts the tablet at 1GB of RAM, along with storage listed at 13GB, likely to be 16GB of internal storage for a production ready model. Both back and front cameras are listed as 4.8MP sensors with Full HD video recording capability, and it carries support for Bluetooth, GPS, NFC, and WiFi. Right now, with no confirmation from HTC that this is the Desire T7 or that the tablet will make it to production, there are unfortunately no details on price or location availability, although based on the hardware specs the tablet should be firmly placed in the low-end device tier. With Mobile World Congress 2016 coming up next month, it’s possible that HTC could end up revealing details about the tablet at the event.
