T-Mobile US, the North American Uncarrier, has announced a special deal for a new plan designed for data heavy families. The plan costs $120 a month and includes four lines, each bundled with unlimited calling, texting and 6 GB of data. The plan also comes with T-Mobile US’ Simple Choice extras – and if 6 GB per line is not enough, the Simple Choice data tier has been doubled, meaning another 4 GB may be added for $15 a month. The deal represents a saving of $20 a month compared from the old deal and T-Mobile US have warned that this current family plan will only be available for a limited period of time, although it is not clear how long the offer will be valid for. The $120 monthly cost is the same as a Sprint offer, although Sprint include 40 GB of data rather than 24 GB. T-Mobile US claim that their additional benefits are worth the reduction in data capacity.
For the uninitiated, the T-Mobile US Simple Choice benefits include unlimited calls and text messages to and from Canada, America and Mexico when the ‘phones are used in these regions. T-Mobile US also permits data and texting roaming as part of the tariff to more than 140 countries around the world, but calls outside of America, Canada and Mexico are chargeable at $0.20 a minute. Customers also benefit from the unlimited music streaming services and unused data may be rolled up for up to twelve months via the “Data Stash” offer. Furthermore, T-Mobile US are rapidly expanding their network, having invested heavily into LTE over the course of 2015 and are planning on acquiring 600 MHz spectrum in the up and coming LTE auction. Sprint will not be participating in the auction.
Sprint and T-Mobile US are engaged in a vicious fight for market share, with T-Mobile US having comparatively recently overtaken Spring as America’s third largest carrier.
