Facebook may be the largest social media site globally, but they’re more than just news feeds and likes. Facebook also offers up a handful of different applications like messenger and Instagram, as well as a collective of different features on Facebook itself. Today Facebook is introducing a new way for sports fans to interact with other fans called Sports Stadium, which is a dedicated place on Facebook where friends and fans of all types of sports can go to get access to real-time information on the teams and sports they love, as well as interact with each other through posts and comments on plays, team rosters, scores and more.
Right now Sports Stadium seems to be limited to the iOS platform and it only supports American Football games to start. Facebook does note though that other sports from around the world, as well as other platforms like Android will gain compatibility with the new feature in the weeks ahead of today’s launch, although unfortunately, they don’t mention the exact date of the release for the additional platforms or sports, or list any detail about what sports will be added in the future.
Accessing the Sports Stadium feature simply requires users to do a search for the game that’s currently playing and as the feature grows Facebook will give users new ways to access the content. Once a game is found that users want to keep tabs on they can interact with friends posts on the game as well as posts and commentary from experts, journalists, teams and others with quick links to those pages. Sports Stadium also features live scores so you can stay up to date on the game even if you can’t actually watch it, and play-by-play information is displayed too so you have the general idea of the game’s biggest moments. If you have time to watch the game but aren’t sure exactly where the best place is to view it, Sports Stadium can list the broadcast channel where it’s playing so you can watch every second. Since this is part of Facebook there’s no additional app to download or install, users will simply have to search for games right from the Facebook search bar.
