It might seem like the Consumer Electronics Show was just held yesterday, but Mobile World Congress is fast approaching. Held every year towards the end of February, MWC is often where the big names in mobile announce their flagship products for the coming year. Last year during MWC 2015, held as always in Barcelona, we saw Samsung announce the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, HTC announced the One M9 among others. With around a month to go, big names in the technology and mobile space are gearing up and now Sony has sent us an invite for their Press Event to be held next month during Mobile World Congress.
The event is due to take place on Monday, the 22nd of February at 08:30 CET, which is 02:30 EST and 23:30 PST for our readers in the US and across the pond in the UK that’s 07:30 in the morning. This is a pretty early time for Sony to hold an event during MWC 2016, as even though the event is held in Europe, many of the big names hold later events to make sure that their US audiences can tune in and get involved as well. Just what Sony has to announce is unclear, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see some new smartphones from Sony. Traditionally, Sony has used MWC to announce Xperia devices, such as 2014’s Xperia Z2 line. CES 2016 was a particularly quiet event for Sony, with some new accessories and such on offer, but nothing major. Considering the Xperia Z5 line went on sale last Fall as well, we might not see new Xperia Z devices until the Spring or Summer, but we’ll be there to cover whatever it is the Japanese giant has to share.
Mobile World Congress is shaping up to be a big deal this year, as LG have already practically confirmed the LG G5 is on its way and it looks like Samsung’s Galaxy S7 and perhaps some new wearable tech is making its way to Barcelona this year. We’ll be roaming the floor of the Gran Fira next month to bring you all of the news and will be there to see what Sony has to announce.
