Battery Time is an Android app that tries a little too hard to make something that can be extremely complicated as easy as possible. The fact of the matter is that taking care of your battery on Android can be pretty difficult, and Battery Time isn’t really smart enough to figure out your specific use case. Still, having said that, the app doesn’t make any overpromises or anything like that, and it’s not just mumbo-jumbo as we often see in other apps, instead it’s simple, effective and does do a lot of things right. The new tips and tricks are handy as well, but it would be nice if they had a little more content in them and there’s only a few of them at the moment. Regardless, overall this is a pretty neat app and one that will appeal to those that aren’t super-techie.
If you’re interested in making the most of your battery life, users can download Battery Time from the Play Store, and launch it to get started.
The main screen of Battery Time is of course a timer of sorts that lets you see how long your battery is estimated to last. I checked this against the built-in estimation inside of Android and found that things didn’t match up.
Of course, it’s important to remember that both of these are just estimates, and they could be both be wrong. Regardless, Battery Time is designed to let you know exactly how much longer your device has to last on battery, but to extend that time. The one-tap method sees the app go about its business, changing certain things about your device.
For each of the different setting that the app changes, users are given an update as to how much time their battery will be extended by.
For me, Battery Time went ahead and turned my brightness, changed the screen timeout to 30 seconds and then asked me if I wanted to turn off Bluetooth:
One thing I didn’t like here is that there was no warning that turning off Bluetooth would make my Android Wear smartwatch no longer work. Considering that I use Bluetooth all day long I would expect more than +6 minutes to be gained from turning it off, but the app only reported that small figure. At the end of the one-tap process, there’s an animation and a quick rundown of how much more time will be added to your battery life, too.
In this latest version of the app, there are tips and tricks that shed a little light on why some people experience better or worse battery life.
These new tips and tricks appear in the message center for users to take a quick look at whenever they need a little more advice.
These messages are often pretty informative, such as this one about making sure all of your apps are up-to-date.
Battery Time aims to be a one-tap affair that can easily set more power-efficient modes on your device, such as changing the screen timeout settings, turning off Wi-Fi, and more. In its latest version, Battery Time now offers new features such as tips and tricks for users to better understand what impacts battery life on their device and how users can break the cycle of ever-depleting batteries in smartphones
