The HTC One A9 was announced back in October as the first smartphone to release with Android 6.0 Marshmallow that was not a Nexus. One of the promises that HTC made with the One A9 was the fact that it would get updates to a new version of the Android OS within 15 days of the Nexus line. Obviously, it’s been a bit longer than 15 days since the Nexus line got the Android 6.0.1 update. HTC has said that the 15 day guarantee is mostly only for the unlocked model. Which did in fact get the update pretty quickly after the Nexus line did.
Now it’s Sprint’s turn. The HTC One A9 that Sprint is selling is currently getting its update to Android 6.0.1. And as the version number tells us, this update isn’t all that big. The biggest update in Android 6.0.1 is the new emoji, which Google gave us nearly 100 new emoji in this update, and now HTC One A9 users on Sprint will be able to actually see those new emojis that everyone else have been using for quite a while. Other changes in this update include better battery life, camera improvements and it now features WiFi Calling on Sprint’s network. A feature they debuted recently, and is still only available on a select few devices on their network.
If you own the HTC One A9 on Sprint, you should have an update waiting for you. Simply head into Settings . About Phone > System Updates and tap on “Check for Updates” and you should be able to pull down the latest update for your HTC One A9. The update will bring you to version 1.57.651.1 of the software on the HTC One A9. For those of you that want to manually update your HTC One A9, the company has made the RUU available so you can flash over the update without waiting for Sprint to push the OTA to your device. Speaking of the OTA, it should be fairly small, but we’d still highly recommend being on WiFi before attempting to install the update. If you’d like some help installing the OTA or flashing the update, head to HTC’s website which is linked in the description below.
