As announced recently, the BlackBerry Priv is beginning to make its way over to other US carriers. On Tuesday, BlackBerry launched the Priv with T-Mobile, where you can pick it up for $719.99 full retail. Of course, if you don’t want to pay that price there are other options. T-Mobile is offering it up for $0 down and $30 per month for 24 months. And if you want to do JUMP! On Demand, you have the option of doing $0 down and $34 per month for 18 months, where you’ll be able to trade it in for another smartphone later on. Coming in at $719.99, it’s a pretty steep price for a smartphone these days, especially one that is already a few months old. The BlackBerry Priv is available on T-Mobile’s website, as well as in T-Mobile stores for those that would like to check it out before buying the Priv.
The BlackBerry Priv is BlackBerry’s first Android-powered smartphone. It’s currently running on Lollipop but is slated to get the Marshmallow update pretty soon. Speaking of updates, BlackBerry has been one of the fastest when it comes to rolling out the monthly security updates. Right behind Google/Nexus and HTC in rolling theirs out. Always a nice thing to see from a manufacturer. The Priv is also the only Android smartphone with a physical QWERTY keyboard. And while reviews have stated it’s not the best BlackBerry keyboard ever, it’s still a pretty decent one. Also better than having nothing. This is great for those that are missing that physical keyboard on their smartphone. BlackBerry has already stated that there will be more Android-powered smartphones coming out of Waterloo, but they are also not abandoning their BlackBerry OS just yet.
Not only is the BlackBerry Priv about being the first BlackBerry running on Android. But it’s also about security. The Priv is one of the more secure Android smartphones, as well as keeping your information private. In fact, the Priv is short for “privacy”. If you’re someone that wants to be rest assured that your information is safe and not being seen by others, then the BlackBerry Priv might be a pretty good choice for you.
