If there’s one recurring theme, among many here at CES 2016, it’d be Virtual Reality. Oculus Rift chose this week of all weeks to get the Rift up for pre-order, and Vale and HTC are showing off new versions of the Vive VR headset that’s currently in development. We got a chance to spend some time with the Vive at CES 2016, and while we’ve already shown you what it’s like to spend time in Everest with the Vive, we’ve got another, more gaming-oriented demo for you to take a look at. Our Reviews Editor, Nick Sutrich, was able to get up close and personal with one of the robots from Valve’s Portal series in this latest demo.
Unlike previous demoes at IFA last year, we were able to get a look at the footage Nick was seeing as well as what people end up looking like when using a VR headset. Here, Nick was given the opportunity to play around with one of the robots and given the task of fixing the robot in a certain time before it self-destructs. What’s neat about this demo is that we get to see just how the triggers (which act as grips) on the controllers can be used to interact with a virtual 3D room. It’s all pretty good fun and with the other announcements that HTC and Valve have made during CES 2016, it looks like the partnership is creating one hell of a product. You can take a look at the video below, and while it’s unfortunate we couldn’t share more of the footage that Nick was seeing, it does a good job of paining the picture.
