Acer Launch Liquid Jade 2 During MWC 2016

Mobile World Congress has gotten off to a big start already, with Samsung and LG arguably stealing the show before its begun on Sunday. We’e seen LG announce the G5 and Samsung unleash the Galaxy S7 unto the world, and now its time for everyone else to have their fun in the sun. Earlier today, Acer announced the new Zest pair of devices, and now they’re announcing the Liquid Jade 2 during MWC 2016. While not a household name in North America, the Acer line of devices are often quite popular in parts of Europe, thanks to their strong value-for-money and surprising good-looking designs.

Where the Liquid Jade 2 is concerned, Acer is bringing some fairly high-end specs to the table this year. With a 5.5-inch Full HD display, a Snapdragon 808 CPU and 3GB of RAM, the Liquid Jade 2 can trade punches with the best of them, even if those specs are a little 2015. The big surprise here however, is that this is launching with a 21-megapixel rear-facing camera, which can record 4K video and promises “blazing-fast autofocus times”. There’s also an 8-megapixel front-facing camera with a wide-angle 84-degree lens for wide, all-encompassing selfies. Storing all of this 4K video and high-resolution photos is 32GB of expandable storage, and playing things back on that Super AMOLED display should look great as it covers 100% of the NTSC color gamut.

Acer has long been a partner of Dolby’s, and the Liquid Jade 2 also includes their new Headphone:X technology for better sound quality over headphones. With the Liquid Jade 2, it appears as though Acer have a device that sort of bridges the gap between bleeding-edge and affordable technology. Anything with a Full HD display compares well with a Quad HD display, and they’s clearly chosen a good Super AMOLED display to offer better quality overall, rather than just more pixels. That Snapdragon 808 isn’t the best of processors, but again this is a good choice for an affordable device and did just fine in last year’s G4 and Moto X Pure, besides it gives the Liquid Jade 2 Cat 6 LTE for speedy connections. While an official release date or official pricing info has yet to be released, we should be seeing this launch later this year.
