Another day, another Samsung device reportedly gets the sweet taste of Marshmallow. The Galaxy Note 5, Samsung’s flagship phablet from last year alongside the Galaxy S6 Edge+, is apparently getting the Android 6.0 treatment in Cambodia as of Friday. The model number of the device that’s said to be receiving the new software happens to be SM-N920C and the build number is quoted as N920CXXU2BPB6. The update is said to be available via the Samsung Smart Switch app currently, and is also expected to be rolled out OTA eventually. Note 5 users can go over to Settings > About Device > Software update to check for the incoming software manually to see if the OTA update is available already.
Samsung hasn’t been the quickest off the blocks in rolling out Marshmallow to its devices, and while HTC and LG started the process long back, it’s only recently that the South Korean company started its Marshmallow rollout. Over the past few days, Samsung has been pushing Marshmallow to a number of its premium phones from last year, so this rollout for the Galaxy Note 5 is not entirely surprising. Just earlier this week, the South Korean tech giant rolled out Android 6.0 to some of the other premium handsets launched by the company last year including the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S6 Edge+, so the new software for the Note 5 was probably just round the corner anyways.
Samsung has a lot on its plate right now, as the company is expected to launch a couple of its 2016 flagship smartphones in a few days’ time at the upcoming MWC (Mobile World Congress) trade show in Barcelona, Spain. The Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge have been heavily rumored in recent times, so while there might not be a lot of surprises by the time the devices are actually unveiled, it will be interesting to see what Qualcomm can bring to the table with its Snapdragon 820 chip after enduring a rough 2015 with the much-maligned Snapdragon 810. Either way, there’s still no word as to when the Marshmallow update for the Note 5 will roll out to the rest of the world, but as and when it does, we’ll make sure to keep you up to speed.
