We had heard before that Samsung might put up the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge for pre-order just hours after they announce the devices in Barcelona. With the sale date being March 11th. Now there’s another report that has surfaced that the pre-orders will indeed begin on February 21st, around 9pm CET (the event starts at 7pm CET). This report is coming out of Tech Radar who spoke to a retail source about the sale date. Now this is likely for Europe, and not all around the globe. As we’ve seen reports before of the device launching in Europe on March 11th. It would also be pretty difficult to get the US carriers to open up pre-orders the same day and launch the device on March 11th without any more information leaking out ahead of time.
As far as pricing goes, there’s still no word on that. However, we are expecting to see pricing similar to what we had on the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge last year, which was north of $600 in the US. Samsung’s flagships are typically pretty pricey, so this shouldn’t be a huge surprise to anyone. Samsung may announce official pricing at Unpacked, especially with pre-orders starting shortly after, but they don’t usually share pricing at the launch.
Samsung did something similar with the Galaxy Note 5 launch back in August. Where pre-orders started shortly after the event in New York (and London) with the device being available just two weeks later. It’s a nice change of pace, seeing as Samsung typically announces a new flagship then waits around 6 weeks to make it available to everyone. Something that we saw last year with the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. They were released after the LG G4 was getting close to being official, leading many users to decide to wait to upgrade their smartphone. Costing Samsung quite a few sales. Likely the reason that they are now pushing up the release date. With LG announcing the G5 the same night as Samsung, could LG push out their flagship ahead of Samsung? It’s possible, but likely not going to happen.
