AT&T Confirms It'll Carry the LG G5 & Friends

The highly anticipated LG G5 was officially announced today in Barcelona, Spain, and sure enough, the handset already grabbed the attention of fans of the brand and members of the Android world alike. The LG G5 represents an important step in the evolution of the South Korean company’s premium smartphone lineup for several reasons, one of which being the full-metal unibody shell which replaces the polycarbonate design flaunted by the previous models. But specifications aside, prospective customers in the US might be wondering what carriers have in store for the G5, and AT&T seems to be eager to shed more light on the matter.

Although exact details about pricing and availability remain unknown, AT&T just confirmed that it will carry the LG G5 on its network, and has already fired up the “coming soon” page dedicated for the G5 on their official website. LG expects to start selling its latest flagship in “key markets” starting this April, and it’s safe to assume that AT&T’s variant could land in the US within the same timeframe – not to mention Verizon already confirmed that their model should be going on sale this Spring.

As for what you should expect from the LG G5 in case you’ve missed the official announcement at MWC, the new flagship packs a 5.3-inch display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440, a Snapdragon 820 SoC along with an Adreno 530 graphics chip and 4 GB of RAM, and features a 16-megapixel main camera coupled with a secondary 8-megapixel rear-facing shooter, as well as an 8-megapixel front-facing unit for selfie enthusiasts. The smartphone packs 32 GB of storage and features a MicroSD card slot for an additional 200 GB of external memory. However, it’s worth noting that despite the fact that the LG G5 runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow, Google’s “Adoptable Storage” feature has been left out by the Korean tech giant.

AT&T claims that more information about pricing and availability will be released in the coming weeks. The LG CAM Plus and LG 360 Sound Bluetooth speaker, along with the LG 360 VR companion devices for the LG G5 will also be available for purchase from AT&T.
