Those who frequent the Google+ app for Android will likely be seeing an update arrive on their device sometime this week. The update is for v7.2 and has just been confirmed to be starting it’s rolling out from today. So as per usual, you might see the update arrive immediately or over the course of the next few days.
In terms of the update, the sheer bulk of it seems to be fixes and performance. According to the details, there are 29 bug fixes included as well as fixes for 10 “accessibility issues”. The changelog also notes that you can now tap the bottom positioned bar to immediately scroll back to the top of the section you are in, beit Collections, Communities or Notifications. In addition, the search bar in Google+ has also seen some improvements with the inclusion of autocomplete and search history for better and faster usage when making searches. One of the big features worth pointing out though is the wider roll out of Google’s Chrome Custom Tabs feature. This was a feature which was noted arriving on Android last month and essentially allows users to view browser tabs within the confines of Google+ and without having to exit the app to view the content in a browser app like Chrome.
While this was a feature which was noted last month, it was only noted at the code level and seemed to be only on offer to some users. In contrast, it now seems to be rolling out far more widespread to the Google+ app and everyone who had not seen it arrive before, will likely see it arrive now with the latest update. Once you click on a web link in Google+ you will see the feature taking effect and the web page open while you remain within Google+. A feature similar to what you have probably already encountered on a number of apps like Facebook and Twitter. If nothing else, this will result in a faster loading and scrolling ability of pages accessed through Google+. As mentioned, the update is now widely rolling out and you should see it arrive soon enough, if you have not already.
