Mobile World Congress might be coming to a close for another year, but we spent our last day at the event stopping by some of the more interesting booths and seeing people that we didn’t have chance to spend time with earlier in the week. During big shows like this, it’s often difficult to find something that stands out from the rest of the crowd, but we’ve found a few gems this week such as Meizu’s Ubuntu Phone and the bizarre Ticwatch. Now, we have something else to take a look at from a French firm dubbed Wiko, the Fever Special Edition.
Not many will be familiar with Wiko – our French followers might be, salut! – perhaps because the firm operates in Europe, offering low-cost devices with high-value. We suppose you could think of them as the French equivalent to America’s Blu brand. Here, we’re looking at the Fever Special Edition, a device that sports a 5.2-inch Full HD display, a rear-facing 13-megapixel camera, a 5-megapixel front-facing camera complete with flash and a fairly-standard octa-core CPU. Powered by a 3,000 mAh battery, for just $305 or so (after conversion) this is a pretty decent device.
Unlike most other budget handset manufacturers, Wiko is keen to offer a little extra value with their devices. The Fever here, glows in the dark. The sides around the edge of the device absorb light throughout the day, and then radiate at night. It’s a cool little party trick, and while it might become annoying when laid on a night stand, it’s at least a selling point for the younger crowd. For the more serious however, the Fever Special Edition does feature a number of different removable backs – many of which are photographed below – which might not be a new feature, but one that’s nice to see at this sort of price range. Running what appears to be Lollipop with a few little modifications on top, the Fever Special Edition is available in the UK and most parts of Europe. It might not be available here in North America, but it’s nice to take a look at something a little different nonetheless.
