LG G5 at Best Buy; Pre-Order and Release Details Emerge

The brand new LG G5 is truly an interesting device, at least at face value and based on our initial hands-on impressions. Not only does it feel like a breeze of fresh air in the company’s line-up but it also introduces a new ecosystem of companion devices, which should make it a more appealing choice for a wider range of users. Several US-based carriers so far – including Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint – have confirmed their plans to offer the LG G5 in the coming weeks, and now one of the country’s largest retailers joined the party as well.

Best Buy just announced that it will bring the highly-anticipated LG G5 in its stores in April. According to the company’s press release, prospective customers will have the opportunity to pre-order the device via Best Buy starting with the 18th of March, and the retailer expects the terminal to be released on the first day of April – hopefully not as part of a cruel April fool’s joke. The smartphone’s retail price remains unknown State-side or otherwise, but either way, the handset will most likely be accompanied by a price tag worthy of the premium market. After all, the LG G5 is a metal-clad top-tier device powered by Qualcomm’s finest chipset to date – the Snapdragon 820 SoC – and boasts features such as a dual-camera configuration consisting of 16 and 8-megapixels unit respectively. The handset also packs an 8 MP front-facing camera, 4 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage, and draws energy from a 2,800 mAh removable battery. Speaking of removable components, the LG G5 can be considered LG’s first attempt at a commercially available modular smartphone. The lower part of the device can slide out and accommodate a series of modules, such as a camera module called the LG CAM Plus, and an audio module created in collaboration with Bang & Olufsen called the LG Hi-Fi Plus. LG also announced a series of “external” devices that can be paired with its latest flagship, including the LG 360 VR headset, the 360 CAM, the Rolling Bot, and the Tone Platinum headphones.

Needless to say, the LG G5 has quite a lot in store for fans of the brand, and we suspect more and more retailers aside from Best Buy will show their intentions of bringing the smartphone into the hands of consumers this spring.
