LG G5 was definitely one of the most awaited smartphones this year. After months of rumors and leaks, the company has just introduced their G5 flagship offering in Barcelona during the Mobile World Congress (MWC), and we’ve already covered the official announcement. LG took a somewhat different approach to their flagship device this year, and it will be interesting to see how will consumers react to it. Anyhow, after covering the main announcement of this phone, let’s take a closer look at its specifications, shall we.
The LG G5 is made out of metal, and even thought his might seem like a unibody design, well, it’s not, not exactly. The LG G5’s ‘chin’ is removable, and it actually offers you a chance to replace the battery. The LG G5 features a 5.3-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) IPS Quantum display, a display which actually offers the ‘Always-on’ mode which can show off its content in black and white. Now, you might remember that the V10’s secondary ‘ticker’ display offered similar functionality, well, the feature has ‘evolved’, as LG says. The LG G5 is fueled by the Snapdragon 820 64-bit quad-core processor, along with an Adreno 530 GPU which is in charge of graphics rendering.
This smartphone also packs 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM, and 32GB of internal storage models are available. In case you need more storage in the LG G5, you do have a chance to expand it via a microSD card up to 2TB. There are two camera sensors available on the back of the LG G5, the 16-megapixel main shooter (78-degree lens), and the wide-angle 8-megapixel camera. The 2,800mAh battery is also a part of this package, and it is removable, you can take it out by removing LG G5’s ‘chin’ from the bottom of the device, which is a new concept. Speaking of the battery, LG has implemented the ‘Low Power Location Estimation (LPLE) Technology’, which will provide excellent battery life according to the company. LG actually says this tech increases battery life up to 41.9%, but we’ll see. Speaking of the battery, Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging is also a part of this package. The LG G5 also comes with a rear-facing fingerprint scanner which is located below the phone’s cameras on the back.
LG has built-in aptX HD 24-bit Hi-Fi wireless audio inside of this device, which is an enhanced codec which supports 24-bit sound over Bluetooth. As far as software goes, LG G5 ships with Android 6.0 Marshmallow, and the company’s custom UI (LG UX 5.0) is installed on top of Google’s operating system. LG’s newest flagship measures 149.4 x 73.9 x 7.7mm, while it weighs 159 grams. The phone comes in Silver, Titan, Gold and Pink color variants, and the Type-C USB port is placed on the bottom of the phone. LG didn’t share any availability information thus far, we’ll report back as soon as they do. On top of all that, it is worth mentioning that the LG G5 is kind of a modular device. LG has also announced a couple of ‘modules’ for the device, like the LG CAM Plus, and Hi-Fi Plus with B&O PLAY. These modules can be attached to the LG G5 in order to add functionality to the device itself, which is an interesting concept as well.
