While NVIDIA SHIELD TV owners are likely waiting on their update to Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) to arrive, for owners of the SHIELD tablets, yesterday was quite an eventful day. If you are the owner of the SHIELD Tablet K1, then yesterday an update was rolling out which brought with it a few bug fixes and performance improvements in the form of a security update, which looks to make the Android experience on the Tablet K1 a more secure one. While, if you are the owner of the original NVIDIA SHIELD tablet, then yesterday saw the update to Marshmallow being pushed out to your device.
This was seen as a move which further highlighted NVIDIA’s approach to ensuring their devices receive a good level of support and continually receive updates to the latest version of the operating system. Especially, considering the Tablet K1 is the new version of the device, so some may have thought the older generation model might not receive the support going forward. However, it does now seem that there might be an issue with the update which began rolling out yesterday. An issue which seems to have put a temporary hold on the further rolling out of Marshmallow to the original SHIELD tablet.
In terms of the issue, some owners are reporting that they are losing WiFi connections after updating. It is currently unclear what is causing the issue, but this has led to an NVIDIA customer care representative posting the confirmation of the update halt to the NVIDIA forums. Along with the confirmation, the posting details some trouble shooting aspects which should be checked if the problem is being encountered. If the problem still persists, the posting is asking for owners to email a screenshot of the Advanced WiFi page in settings to try and further help remedy the issue. At present, there are no details on when the update will likely continue its roll out, although, it is presumed this will not occur until the problem is understood and a fix applied. It is also worth pointing out that not everyone is seeing the issue, so if you have recently updated and do not have the issue, then there is unlikely any need to worry.
