Pandora was once the most popular streaming music service out there. It was one of the only free services available a few years ago and provides great customized radio stations that are tailored to you based on songs you’ve liked or disliked. However since then, the streaming music space has blown up, literally. Pandora is still pretty popular, however most people stick with the likes of Tidal, Spotify, Google Play Music or Apple Music. Pandora is available on the web, as well as on platforms such as iOS and Android. The Android app for Pandora was pretty sad looking for quite some time. Making most people switch to another streaming music service because of it. However, Pandora is now pushing out a server-side change for the app that brings in a nice looking makeover to the app.
For most of Pandora’s life, they have used a blue theme, however that appears to be mostly gone now with this makeover. We’re looking at light gray screens with blue text, on active parts of the app, and other parts have black text. We have a nice hamburger menu on the left side, which slides out and gives you access to your stations, feed, your profile as well as settings for both your account and the app. The blue theme I was talking about, it’s still partially there. For instance on the song screen you can see the entire screen is blue with white text and the album art front and center.
If you look on the Google Play Store, the screenshots you see there are of the last redesign for Pandora. We saw basically the same color palette in that update. However this update to the app, seems to bring it a bit more in-line with the Material Design guidelines that Google has made. As noted before, this appears to be a server-side update. So unfortunately we can’t provide the APK to sideload and get the update for your device. Hopefully, Pandora doesn’t take a long time to push out the new update to everyone, as it is a great looking update. Not to mention, Pandora does also work with Android Auto.
