Samsung wasn’t particularly fast to update their devices to the latest version of the Android operating system. The company released the software in beta form for the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge back in December and just a couple of days ago, Samsung started rolling out Android 6.0 Marshmallow officially for these handsets. Since the beta software was released, some of the changes that Samsung included in this version of the OS became known, including some visual changes on the UI. Now, the company has communicated a few improvements included in the Marshmallow release.
The company updated the browser and now it’s called Samsung Internet 4.0. The Secret Mode on the browser, which doesn’t store passwords, cookies, viewing history and other data, has been improved in this new version as it now supports fingerprint authentication. This way, users might use the fingerprint scanner to access their sensitive information within the browser, which is particularly useful with the Secure Web Auto Login. Additionally, users can now save bookmarks and pages while navigating through Secret Mode, but these will be saved in a separate space using Samsung’s security solutions. Samsung Internet 4.0 is also compatible with the Gear VR, providing a more immersive experience when looked from the headset and users can benefit from sharing bookmarks and video history between this device and the Galaxy smartphones and tablets. The new browser also supports some of the most current specs, thus getting high scores on HTML5 compatibility tests. When users experience poor connectivity, the full implementation of the Service Worker API will provide a better experience.
Also included in Marshmallow, Cross App will allow users to operate certain apps from within other apps. For example, from the messaging app, users can now attach other files or even take new pictures without exiting the app. Users can also open a URL within the chat app in a sort of split screen mode and videos or sounds can be played within the chat, which is quite useful as users don’t have to switch between apps. After updating their devices, users will get better battery life thanks to Doze and App Standby modes, they will also get a better audio experience as MIDI format is now supported and the speed of audio while watching a video can be adjusted.
