The yearly Integrated Systems Europe trade show is one of the best places to spot emerging tech that could have a serious impact on the business world, as well as companies’ newest wares in popular lineups. Big names show up in early February each year to show off some of their latest innovations and attract new enterprise and tech customers, as well as wow the general public. At this year’s ISE, lasting between February 9 and February 12, Samsung and LG have both rolled out their own spin on the old fashioned neon sign, featuring a series of large OLED displays.
Samsung’s version is called the “Video Wall” and features a four-by-four arrangement of OLED panels that will stitch together a large image, useful for things like corporate signage, giant displays for sporting events and, presumably, some seriously sick sessions of gaming, if somebody wanted to use them for that purpose. The kicker is that these displays are actually Samsung’s own transparent “mirror” displays and can be placed just about anywhere. The impressive development could make for incredible corporate signage and presentations, but according to a Samsung spokesperson, it’s still in the concept stage and won’t hit the commercial market for some time. Samsung plans for this year to center around LED signage, outdoor signage, the video wall and an electronic chalkboard.
LG has rolled out a similar product, but has put their own twist on it. Their OLED displays, a heavy investment of theirs in the past few years, are used in a video wall of sorts consisting of large, curving OLED panels. The setup shown off linked four panels curved into a wave shape. The panels were double-sided to boot, allowing them to be placed in open space and be effectively viewed from both sides. LG plans to provide a WebOS backend on some of these setups to allow for easy management. There was no mention of any security concerns that decision may end up presenting. LG is confident that their signage will stand out in a market due to explode in the near future, saying “With our overwhelming high resolution, we will provide differentiated products for commercial display,”.
