Sony Introduces the Fresh Xperia X Lineup in New Videos

This year Sony surprised us at MWC 2016 with a new series of smartphones dubbed the “Sony Xperia X“. The lineup managed to gain a lot of attention this morning thanks to a fresh design, but assuming you’ve missed the live coverage then you might want to check out our hands-on impressions for two of the three new devices. You can also get a glimpse at the new series in Sony’s new introduction videos which recently went live on the company’s official YouTube channel.

Shortly after Sony’s press conference came to an end, the company decided to showcase its latest family of smartphones in a handful of videos, each starring a different Xperia X smartphone. The Sony Xperia X Performance is the most powerful of the bunch, and the official video clearly reflects this with every opportunity it gets. The second video features the Sony Xperia X which shares the same camera configuration as the premium counterpart, and unsurprisingly the video revolves around the handset’s camera capabilities, as well as its “up to 2 days” battery life. Last but not least, the third video targets the Sony Xperia XA which, as the video suggests, is “reliable”, “simple and easy” and “designed with care”. Although not as powerful as the other two handsets in the lineup, the Xperia XA surely looks intriguing, partly thanks to its edge-to-edge display reserved only for this model.

The Sony Xperia X series surely is an interesting addition at MWC, especially since the manufacturer hasn’t really jumped on the bandwagon to push for the highest specifications available. For instance, instead of a QHD display, both the Xperia Performance and Xperia X feature 5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) panels. They also have slightly smaller batteries compared to their main competitors, yet at the same time, they boast up to 2-days of battery life. Needless to say, optimization can go a long way, and hopefully, Sony managed to squeeze a lot of battery life from the new series through software wizardry. Whether or not this is the case remains to be seen once battery benchmarks will be in, although we might have to wait a little while since the new trio doesn’t seem to be in a rush for a market release before summer.
