The race to Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) may have started quite a few months ago, but it would seem that many devices are still waiting for their update to arrive and especially those flagship devices which were purchased through carriers in the U.S. The HTC One M9 being a good case in point. The unlocked version of the One M9 was relatively quick out of the door in receiving its update to Marshmallow with the update being announced just a couple of days before Christmas. Since then, although the news has been somewhat quiet on the update, the carriers have been working to push the update through. Most notably, Sprint confirmed exactly a week ago that their One M9 variant was set to begin receiving its update to Marshmallow. Now, following in Sprint’s footsteps is T-Mobile.
HTC has confirmed that the One M9 on T-Mobile is now ready to receive the update to Android 6.0, The update confirmation came through one of the typical HTC channels of information, through the Twitter account of Mo Versi, VP of Product management at HTC. However, the announcement only confirms that the update has now received technical approval which means it is ready to begin the process of rolling out. According to the announcement, those waiting for the update to actually begin, will have to wait a little longer as the over the air update is not scheduled to start rolling out until Feb 16, Tuesday.
Of course as the formation came by way of Twitter, there is no detailed information currently available on what is included in the update for the One M9 on T-Mobile. The staple features which come with the stock update, like the battery-focused Doze, improved app permissions and of course, Google’s Now on Tap will all be included. However, there are no details on what additional changes will be included. This information will likely become available in the coming days, or in the worst case, by Tuesday when the OTA begins its route out to devices. In the meantime, if you are the owner of a T-Mobile HTC One M9, then next week is the week you should expect to see the Marshmallow update arrive.
