The HTC One M9 over on Verizon is getting its update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow beginning today. This is after the Sprint variant got their update earlier this month and the unlocked model got theirs back in December. The HTC One M9 is the latest flagship from HTC, and was released last April. It launched on Android 5.0 Lollipop, so it’s nice to see it getting the Android 6.0 Marshmallow. A bit surprising to see Verizon pushing it out ahead of T-Mobile and AT&T for their variants. But good news, nonetheless. T-Mobile should be rolling out the Marshmallow update to the One M9 today as well, but we haven’t received word of it actually rolling out just yet.
Android 6.0 Marshmallow isn’t really a huge update for the One M9, it’s mostly under-the-hood enhancements for the device. However one of the more anticipated features is Now on Tap. Allowing you to access Google Now from anywhere, without you leaving the app that you’re in. It’s great for finding information quickly. Say you’re on a page about the new Galaxy S7, using Google Now on Tap, it’ll find you other information about Samsung, the Galaxy S7 and other keywords that are on that page. Making things pretty easy. Another example includes an email with tracking info. Instead of going to FedEx’s website to view the latest update, Now on Tap can show it for you.
Other features in Marshmallow include Doze. This is great for smartphones that need a little extra help when it comes to battery life. Doze will extend your standby time by quite a bit. What it does is allows your phone to go into a deeper sleep when you haven’t used it for a while. Overnight, most phones lose around 5% of their battery (average of 8 hours on standby), however with Doze, you’ll lose 1% or less during that same 8 hours. Making for a pretty important addition to battery life.
The update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow is rolling out now. So you should be getting a notification shortly regarding the update. You can also attempt to pull it down by going to Settings > About Phone > System Updates and Check for Updates.
