After months and months of various rumors, leaks and official teasers that have been popping up all over the internet, Samsung has finally introduced their new flagship devices, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge. We’ve already talked about both of these devices in our official announcements. The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge are actually quite similar to its predecessors, and following the official announcement, we’ll take a look at one specific features of the device, read on.
Samsung has actually decided to partner up with Whitepages, a caller identification and phone scam detection company. This company actually has a database of more than 600 million mobile and landline phone number in the US, and over 1.5 billion numbers on a global scale. That being said, Whitepages doesn’t come as a separate app in the Galaxy S7 & S7 Edge, but as a built-in feature of the phone, which is interesting. Now, this service will not only identify who’s calling you (based on their database) but will also detect spam and scam calls, which can be very useful, of course. On top of all that, you’ll be able to find nearby businesses with the help of Whitepages. You can mark some calls ‘spam’ or ‘scam’ as well if you want, and as already mentioned, all this is built into the system. According to Whitepages, tons of calls are actually classified as unwanted on a yearly basis, around 15 million of them, and according to their data, spam and scam calls rose 35% in 2015 compared to a year before.
“We are pleased to work with Samsung on one of the great issues currently impacting mobile users worldwide. Ensuring phone safety through user-friendly services is what we do at Whitepages. We are happy to have worked with Samsung on the Galaxy S7 to provide their users with the greatest phone experience possible and further grow our footprint in the international arena,” said Alex Algard, Founder and CEO of Whitepages. Once the Galaxy S7 & S7 Edge become available, Whitepages caller identification will be available in: Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Israel, Italy, Mexico, Philippines, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States, but additional countries will be added to that list as the availability of Samsung’s flagships expands.
