YouTube is the largest video site in the world. The majority of the videos that are hosted on the site are not from movie studios like Universal or Sony, but rather from other people uploading funny videos, some might be tech reviews, or even tutorial videos. You can find just about anything on YouTube. The company is looking to become the go-to website for cord-cutters, even though they arguably are already. Today, YouTube announced a new tool for creators to use, to make their videos even better.
The company debuted their blurring tool, which can be accessed through their site, and allows you to blur parts of your video and even moving objects. It can all be done through the web interface as well, which means you won’t have to re-upload your video. With high-quality and long videos, this can be a pretty big deal. Many may ask, why would you want to blur something in your video? Well imagine you got someone’s license plate, or maybe a phone number, credit card number, or something else sensitive. You’ll want to blur that out so that the millions of views that video may get, don’t see that sensitive information. It makes everything much easier for creators, and that’s a great thing.
To get started, all you need to do is go to the video you want to edit. Then Select Custom Blurring from within the Blurring Effects tab from the Enhancement Tools. You will just draw a box around what you want to blur. Then the Custom Blurring tool will blur that objects, as it moves in the video. YouTube states that this uses their “new innovative technology” and can analyze the motion of any video on the fly. YouTube also notes that you can move the blurred area as well as adjust the amount of time the area is blurred out. So if you decide you want to blur something out later on, you can do that quite easily.
This blurring tool is available now, and should be available for everyone using YouTube. YouTube also says that the Blurring tool was built with anonymity in mind.
