Android TV's Backdrop Daydream App Pushed To The Play Store

For a very long time one of the consistent issues with Android TV was its lack of supported apps. While the Play Store generally seems to be bursting at the seems with app choices, virtually all of them did not support the Android TV platform, or worst still, did support Android TV, but there was not any decent way to find or become aware of those apps without going out of your way to search for them.

However that has now changed and while the platform could still do with a greater selection of apps to choose from, there’s certainly a good level of support now being offered. Not to mention, Google updated the Android TV version of the Play Store back in June of last year in a massive way, one which certainly did improve the way in which apps could be found. Speaking of which, a new app has now arrived on the Play Store this week for Android TV, an app entitled Backdrop Daydream.

If the name sounds familiar, then that will be because this is an app which already comes installed on all Android TV devices and is simply the Daydream app which offers a number of interesting images for you to look at when the device has been left idle for a period of time. However, Google has now pushed the app to the Play Store as a standalone app listing, in a move which reflects what many companies have been doing lately with their apps. The obvious benefit being that updates will be easier to be sent out and pushed to devices. So while this is unlikely to benefit any Android TV device owners right now, it should prove more useful going forward when new features and updates become available. That said, if you want to check out the app on the Play Store then you can by heading through the link below. Although, if you own an Android TV device, you will see that this is already listed as “Installed”. While this does look to be a recently updated version, the Play Store listing does only list bug fixes as included. So your installed Daydream app version should be up to date already.
