Traveling can be stressful, especially if you’re flying. Between needing to keep your passport (if you’re flying internationally) on you at all times, going through endless security (and for good reason) not to mention checking in for your flight and getting to the right gate on time. Technology has been trying to make this process simpler, but in some regards it has made it a bit tougher. KLM is trying something different here.
The Dutch airline, who’s home base is in Amsterdam, is attempting to allow their passengers to check in for flights, change flight info and get their boarding pass all from within Facebook Messenger. Now KLM already has their own Android app, so this is something entirely different they are trying here in this partnership with Facebook. It won’t give you quite the same experience as you would get from the KLM app, which is available for free, but it is nice to get all the information sent to you, essentially via text message.
KLM has said that this messaging service is available to all of its passengers that book a flight through their website. It’s also worth noting that they have roughly 15 million fans over on Facebook. So they aren’t a small airline at all. Serving Europe as well as many other destinations in the world. They are part of the SkyTeam alliance, which is the largest airline alliance currently. Facebook noted that the features for KLM Messenger will be rolling out over the coming weeks and months. With the initial rollout beginning today.
Facebook has been making plans for users to get more out of Messenger, and thus use the service a bit more. We’ve seen partnerships with the likes of Uber already. Where you can quickly request an Uber from Messenger, without even having to open the app. Additionally, you can get information on your Uber from the Messenger app. It’s a pretty great experience, and it looks like the company is continuing to expand on that. It’ll be interesting to see how many KLM customers actually decide to use Facebook Messenger for their next flight on the airline.
