Xiaomi has introduced their all-new flagship during this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. After months and months of leaks, the Xiaomi Mi 5 was finally announced. The device is already available for purchase in China, and it will roll out to India in a month. Speaking of which, Xiaomi has introduced the Redmi Note 3 smartphone in India yesterday, and following the announcement, Jai Mani’s interview followed, read on.
Jai Mani is an ex-Google employee who is leading Xiaomi’s MIUI department. As most of you know, MIUI is an Android-based OS which ships on top of Google’s OS in every Android-based Xiaomi handset. Jai Mani talked about the Redmi Note 3 and Xiaomi Mi 5during the interview, so let’s see what he had to say, shall we. Jai Mani has stressed out that India is one of the most important markets for Xiaomi, and that the company will do everything they can in order to bring Mi 5 to the country as soon as possible. As per Hugo Barra’s words, Indian users won’t have to wait for that long considering the fact that the phone will launch in one month. Mr. Mani has also ruled out simultaneous global launches in the future by saying the following: “It’s part of the plan with not launching everything because this way we focus on a few things, and try to bring it quickly”.
Xiaomi’s Head of MIUI also talked briefly about the Redmi Note 3. This handset was introduced at the end of last year in China, and has reached India yesterday. Jai Mani wanted to emphasize Xiaomi’s attention to detail by saying the following: “When I was at Google, we were launching the Nexus 4 with glass back panel, and the speaker grille was indented into the glass back of the device so when you laid the device on the table, you couldn’t hear anything. So Andy [Rubin] who was the guy who ran Android that time found this issue right before the launch. Initially, it was thought to be a software bug but later turned out to be a design related problem”. He also added that the Redmi Note 3 supports Bands 3, 5, 40, and 41 in India, which basically means that it supports all Indian LTE bands. This makes the Redmi Note 3 and Lenovo Vibe K4 Note the only sub-Rs. 20,000 smartphones to support all Indian LTE bands. On top of all that, Mr. Mani has also talked briefly about VR, by stating the following: “VR is the next big thing in tech industry but we don’t have any specific plans for it right now,” while he also added that VR devices need to be a lot cheaper.
