Android smartphones and tablets are not the only devices running Android software which are waiting on the latest and greatest version of the operating system. Android Wear devices are keeping a pretty close pace with software updates as well and are all slated to be updated to Marshmallow versions of the Android Wear platform. One of the latest Android Wear devices, the Huawei Watch, is due to see the update sometime today with the software update rolling out to devices over the air, although not all watches are likely to see it at the same time as Huawei will probably be pushing it out to users in stages as opposed to all at once.
These details come straight from Huawei over on the software support page as a response to a user’s question regarding Android Wear 6.0, first stating that the update would be coming to users in the near future but without having mentioned any specific dates. This response was from earlier this morning, but an updated response from later on in the afternoon revealed that the update will begin rolling out today for Huawei Watch owners, which means some users could possibly already have the update while others are still waiting.
Aside from the Huawei Watch the Motorola Android Wear devices have also started receiving the update to Android Wear 6.0 as of earlier this month, and for any watch that receives the software there will be new permission controls as well as new wrist flick gestures and some tweaks to the Do Not Disturb. As for the Huawei Watch, it will be introduced to all of these changes as well, but Android Wear 6.0 will also finally open up the speaker functionality for the Huawei Watch which means users will be able to do a number of different things they weren’t able to before, like play music from the watch without having a set of Bluetooth earbuds attached and for the LTE-enabled models, they’ll be able to make and receive calls without a headset. Huawei doesn’t mention how big the software update for the watch will be, but given the small and limited amount of internal space on the device it isn’t likely to be very big, as other past updates have not been either.
