MailTime Brings its SMS-Style Email Client to Android

MailTime, which has been exclusive to iOS since launching in 2014, has hit over a million downloads. To celebrate, the service is now available for Android. It’s a free app – no in-app purchases either – which allows you to take Email to the next level. Many have said that it takes what everyone loves about SMS or texting and brings it to Email. Making it even faster to reply to emails. MailTime says that it is a mobile app that “blurs the lines between instant messaging (IM) and emailing”. They also note that unlike other instant messaging apps, their users can communicate with anyone using an email address. Making it much more simpler and easier for users.

Have you ever gotten an email with a ton of metadata that you really don’t need or want to see? Well MailTime has a content parsing engine that cuts all of that out and displays the email in bubbles. Much like you’d see in an instant messaging app like Hangouts, Skype, and even iMessage. Heatherm Huang, who is the co-founder and CEO of MailTime, mentioned in a prepared statement that “MailTime is the only open platform for mobile communication.” Continuing with “even if your mom uses an @aol.com account, you can email her via MailTime.” She also stated that some think email is broken or dying and that MailTime believes they can give email a second life.

While they aren’t making a profit on their app, considering it’s a completely free app, they have raised more than $3 million in seed funding. They have also completed the Y Combinator accelerator program as of March 24th, 2016. MailTime also has a slew of other investors from popular technology companies.

When you install MailTime, you’ll be prompted to login to your email accounts. The app will prioritize emails from friends. This way users are able to focus on communication rather than organization within the app. As you’d expect, the text bubbles and graphics show who said what within the conversation. Just as you would see in an instant messaging app. Head on over to the Google Play Store and download MailTime today.
