Google’s Chromebook Pixel’s have always been somewhat of an expensive Chromebook. But they have also had some of the best specs in the Chromebook family. The Chromebook Pixel is generally around $1000 and features some top-notch design, with it being made of aluminum, and having a chicklet, backlit keyboard as well as the multi-colored lightbar on the back of the Chromebook. It appears that the next Chromebook Pixel has just been spotted.
Spotted over on the Chromium OS code review group, there is a new board called “chell”. Which some are believing is the next Chromebook Pixel for one reason, it has a multi-colored lightbar. All of Google’s Pixel products have had this lightbar, even the Pixel C, which reportedly started as a Chrome OS tablet and then ultimately launched as an Android tablet. Some of the specs on the “chell” include 16GB of RAM and an Intel Skylake Processor which would be the latest from Intel. Additionally, there is a backlit keyboard included. While it’s highly likely that this could be the new Chromebook Pixel, there is always that chance that it could be something else.
The Google Chromebook Pixel’s haven’t always sold very well. Although Google never talks about sales for any of their products, so it’s tough to say. With a starting price of around $999, it’s hard to say that it’s been a top seller. The Chromebook Pixel has mostly been used by Googlers who needed a high-end Chromebook to use. Seeing as most other Chromebooks out there are fairly cheap and pretty low on the spec-sheet. Although Dell’s new Chromebook 13 does come with 8GB of RAM (of course that’s configurable from the base 2GB model). Seeing 16GB of RAM coming in the new Chromebook Pixel wouldn’t be a big surprise, considering the Chromebook Pixel typically has the best specs out there, and with Chrome, you’ll definitely use all of that RAM. Google’s Chrome OS isn’t going to go toe-to-toe with Apple’s Mac OS X or Microsoft’s Windows, but it is a pretty good alternative, for someone that doesn’t do much outside of the browser. And with Adobe bringing Chromebook support lately to their apps, it makes it an even better alternative.
