Oculus is one of the largest names in virtual reality right now and that should come as no surprise as they were technically the first product in the public eye out of the current offerings scheduled to hit the market. While Oculus Rift pre-orders are already up and running and have been for a little while, the VR headset has yet to launch, although that time is near. This morning Oculus has announced that the Rift headset will ship in March as planned, but they have also given consumers an actual date for the arrival of the VR tech with units shipping out on March 28th.
That’s less than two weeks away now which is likely very exciting for those who have either pre-ordered or will be considering picking up a Rift headset in the near future. The Rift itself though is only as good as the library of games with which a consumer has to play when using it. While it will take some time for a larger number of games to become available for the VR platform, Oculus has also announced this morning that they will have 30 games available at launch alongside the Rift headset the same day, including heavyweight hit titles like EVE Valkyrie, EVE Gunjack, and Elite Dangerous, (all space turret shooters) among a decent remaining number of smaller titles, many of which are sure to capture the attention of a few gamers.
A 30-count list of Day 1 games is nothing to shake a stick at, and even though it doesn’t necessarily overshadow the list of the 50 games launching for the PlayStation VR, it’s important to remember that all 30 games for Oculus Rift are launching on day 1, while the complete list of 50 titles for Sony’s VR headset are launching sometime between the October launch of the PlayStation VR and the end of the year. That also gives Oculus plenty of time to launch more titles leading up to the PlayStation VR launch, and Oculus plans to deliver as they have stated there are over one hundred more games launching for Oculus Rift this year, giving them quite the sizable library of offerings in just 8 months after launch. If you’re interested in the Oculus Rift but haven’t yet purchased the headset, you can still pre-order the device for $599, or look into a bundle if you also need a PC powerful enough to run the technology.
