While HTC did opt to not showcase their latest flagship at Mobile World Congress last month in Barcelona, it appears that we might be seeing their new flagship pretty soon. As we saw in leaks yesterday, the device appears to be named “HTC 10” now and dropping the “One” and “M” from the name. This would be HTC’s tenth flagship device, making the “10” pretty important in the name of this new device. We’ve already seen loads of leaks regarding the device, complete with it’s chamfered edges around the back. We’re also looking at a 5.15-inch QHD AMOLED display, a 12-megapixel camera on the back, Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB of RAM, 32GB of storage and a microSD card slot. Spec-wise, it appears to be a pretty decent smartphone, at least according to the leaks.
Yesterday, Evleaks shared a press image of the HTC 10 on Twitter. He mentioned early this morning that the anticipated launch date – as shown in that image – is set for April 19th. Now it’s not known if the device will be available that day or if that day is the announcement day. Evleaks does say “launch” so that is likely the day that it is available for purchase. Which means we’ll likely have an event for the device to be announced at sometime in March. As of now, there’s no word on an event just yet. Nor has HTC started sending out invites for an event just yet. If it is indeed happening this month, we should be seeing invites pretty soon.
The HTC 10 has some pretty steep competition – one of the reasons they likely skipped MWC this year. With the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge being available next week in the US and about 60 other countries, along with the LG G5 launching in April (the rumored date is April 1st). All three of these smartphones have already been announced and may be able to grab some of HTC’s spotlight. Although hardcore HTC fans will still be interested. As long as they do everything correctly. And improve the device in all of the correct areas, a big one is the camera.
