Sony is an international corporation, and even though they do manufacture smartphones, that’s definitely not their main source of income. Sony’s Mobile division hasn’t been doing that great as far as sales go for quite some time now, and even though the company tried to change that they haven’t been all that successful. Well, Sony’s other businesses, like the PlayStation and mobile camera sensor divisions, are doing great. The PlayStation 4 has been a global success, and it seems like Sony is looking to build upon that, read on.
The company has set up a new company called ‘ForwardWorks’ which will focus on developing mobile games. This company will start with operations on April 1st, and will “leverage the intellectual property of the numerous PlayStation® dedicated software titles and its gaming characters”, in order to create full-fledged games for mobile users in Asia. Now, as Sony says, this company will probably be focused on making games for the Asian market at first, which is somewhat disappointing, but we’ll see what happens, we won’t make any presumptions just yet. This Japan-based company didn’t really say when we can expect first gaming titles to come out of ForwardWorks’ workshop, but it might take a while. Sony Interactive Entertainment’s global CEO, Atsushi Morita, will head this whole project in Tokyo.
ForwardWorks might be a new company, but considering this is Sony’s arm basically, we have high expectations for them. Sony is a gaming giant, one of the largest such companies out there, and it will be interesting what happens. As you all probably know by now, Nintendo has entered the mobile space recently as well, the company has introduced their first mobile app, and it will be interesting what will be Nintendo’s next move. It would certainly be interesting to see both NIntendo’s and Sony’s titles available in the Google Play Store, that would certainly make Google’s app store more powerful in a way. All in all, these are exciting news, and we’ll make sure to keep you posted, Sony will hopefully release more info soon, so stay tuned for that.
