Just under two weeks ago, Google released the first developer preview of the next incarnation of Android, Android N. A release which largely took the Android community by surprise and one which introduced a number of new features and improvements. What quickly became clear from the newly announced features was that Google was making a big push to improve the way in which notifications are handled on Android N. An example of this was quickly noted through the use of Android N’s notification bundling, where notifications are bundled together, but still offer the ability to respond to each of the bundled notifications individually.
As to be expected with a developer preview, one of the main reasons for rolling out the preview so early is to allow developers to get to grips with the new code and start applying the new features to their respective apps, like notification bundling for instance. Well, we are now already starting to see the fruits of an early preview as it now seems that the popular Talon for Twitter app has now been updated to offer support for Android N, in particular, support for notification bundling.
The updated version (v4.6.0) has now been confirmed to come with support for Android N’s notification bundling for tweets which include mentions, activity and also favorite user tweets. The changelog also notes that user will now be able to “like and retweet a status from mention and favorite user notification buttons” as well as general UI improvements. The update to v4.6.0 does mean that Talon for Twitter is one of the first third-party apps to see its Android N support coming through so quickly, although it does also mean that a number of users will not be able to make use of the updated features unless they are running the developer preview of Android N, or Android Wear, which has also seen its support being added.
