Verizon’s LG G3 and LG G4 are getting a new OTA software update according to reports this Friday. The update being rolled out by big red to the two premium LG devices should install the latest Android Platform Security patches dated March 1st, 2016. Along with that, Verizon says the latest update also includes a minor fix that should allow the devices to wake up faster from a sleep state. The update has only just started to roll out as of Friday morning, so it might take a while before it’s available to all LG G3 and LG G4 owners on the network, but those waiting for the update notification to arrive can also manually check for the availability of the new software by going to Settings > About Device > Software Updates > Check for Updates.
Coming to some more details that Verizon has revealed, the software version on the LG G3 will now be VS98547A with the installation of the incoming update and as for the LG G4, the software version will go up to VS98625A. Verizon also advises users to make sure their device is either connected to a stable Wi-Fi connection or a strong wireless signal before starting the update process. As is the case with all updates, Verizon also says that it is advisable to have a fully-charged battery before going ahead with the software update. It’s worth remembering though that both the devices have already been updated to Android Marshmallow by Verizon, so users should not expect any new feature addition from the new software.
Quite a few devices from a slew of Android OEMs have got the March security update already from Verizon, and that list includes the likes of the Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy Note Edge, HTC One M8, One M9, and LG V10. The monthly update schedule started last year when a number of tier-1 Android OEMs like Samsung, LG, Sony and HTC publicly announced their plans to follow Google’s lead and roll out monthly security patches to their premium devices as soon as Google releases the software to its hardware partners, which happens around the end of the month before the security update is officially announced.
