Xiaomi Mi 5 has been introduced during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona last month, and was one of the most interesting devices out there. Consumers have been waiting for this smartphone for a long time, the Mi 4 was introduced back in July 2014, so Xiaomi basically waited over a year and a half in order to announce its successor. The Mi 5 was introduced in two variants, the standard Mi 5 variants, while the Mi 5 Pro model was announced as well. The two devices are identical in every aspect except RAM, internal storage, and different materials were used for the Mi 5’s back, the phone has been made out of ceramic.
That being said, Xiaomi has decided to test the resistance of the Mi 5 Pro’s ceramic back (or as Xiaomi calls it, the ‘3D Ceramic Body’) for the general public. This back cover was reportedly made using a 16 step process in order to achieve the appropriate texture, and its body costs 75% more than the one used in the Mi 5, according to report. This material is supposed to be quite resistant, and the video embedded down below definitely proves that. There are various tests performed here, Xiaomi kicks things off by scratching the phone, but things get far more interesting than that soon enough. The company has even used a drill in order to prove a point here, and the ceramic body sure did take a beating here, but remained unscratched after everything. The Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro features a 5.15-inch fullHD (1920 x 1080) display, 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The device is fueled by the Snapdragon 820 64-bit quad-core SoC, along with the Adreno 530 GPU for graphics. The 16-megapixel 4-axis OIS camera is placed on the back of this phone, and a 4-megapixel snapper (2um pixel size) can be found up front. The 3,000mAh battery is not removable, and the device ships with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box, with Xiaomi’s MIUI 7 OS on top of it. Two SIM card slots are also available here, and the Mi 5 (Pro) sports a physical home button below the display, which doubles as a fingerprint scanner.
