The Xiaomi Mi 5 has been one of the most expected smartphones of this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. Xiaomi’s all-new flagship was supposed to be announced last year, but Xiaomi opted to postpone the launch and introduce it about a week ago during the largest mobile technology trade show of the year. The Mi 5 is now official, and sales are on the way in China, read on.
We’ve reported yesterday that Xiaomi received 14.4 million reservations for the Xiaomi Mi 5 flash sale in China, but that was before the end reservations deadline. 16.8 million consumers actually registered for the Mi 5 flash sale, which crushed pretty much every record in that country as far as registrations go. That being said, the Xiaomi Mi 5 flash sale was held earlier today (10 AM local time), and as expected, Xiaomi has sold out Mi 5 units incredibly fast. The company did not confirm how many units they had to sell, perhaps they’ll do that during the day. Either way, the Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro was not available for purchase today, only the Xiaomi Mi 5 was. The Mi 5 Pro variant actually ships with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, while the regular Mi 5 comes with 3GB of RAM and either 32GB or 64GB of storage. Xiaomi will quite probably hold yet another flash sale soon, and the device is also expected to reach India soon. The company did not reveal when will the Mi 5 Pro be available, but you can expect that to happen soon as well.
The Xiaomi Mi 5 features a 5.15-inch fullHD (1920 x 1080) display, 3GB / 4GB of RAM, and 32GB / 64GB or 128GB of non-expandable internal storage. This smartphone is fueled by the Snapdragon 820 64-bit quad-core SoC, along with an Adreno 530 GPU. The 16-megapixel 4-axis OIS camera is placed on the back of this phone, and a 4-megapixel (2um pixel size) snapper can be found up front. The 3,000mAh battery is also a part of this package, and it is not removable. Android 6.0 Marshmallow comes pre-installed on this smartphone, and on top of it, you’ll find Xiaomi’s MIUI Android-based OS.
