Xiaomi Will Increase Mi 5's Production Capacity Next Month

The Xiaomi Mi 5 was announced last month during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. The Mi 5 is Xiaomi’s new flagship, and a long awaited one at that, considering its predecessor was introduced back in July 2014. Anyhow, the Xiaomi Mi 5 has been available for purchase in China for a while now, but only through flash sales, and the demand seems to be through the roof for the device, and the company has been trying to find a way to increase its production capacity for quite some time now. Well, it seems like that has just happened, read on.

The company’s CEO, Lei Jun, actually held a press conference yesterday, and has announced that the company will increase the production capacity of the Xiaomi Mi 5 next month. This essentially means that more units should be available through flash sales in China, and considering the fact that the Mi 5 is going to be announced in India tomorrow as well, this certainly makes sense. China and India are the two largest smartphone markets in the world, and interestingly enough, two of Xiaomi’s most important markets as well. We still do now have any specific production info, and we probably will never know the exact numbers, but based on Lei Jun’s words, Xiaomi will do their best to manufacture as many Mi 5 units as humanly possible.

That being said, Xiaomi has actually released two Mi 5 variants last month, the Mi 5 and Mi 5 Pro (available starting April 6th). The two devices are quite similar, but there are some differences. Unlike the regular Mi 5, the Mi 5 Pro ships with a ceramic back cover, 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The regular Mi 5, on the other hand, comes with a glass back, 3GB of RAM and either 32GB of 64GB of internal storage. The rest of the specs are identical, the Mi 5 is fueled by the Snapdragon 820 64-bit quad-core SoC, along with the Adreno 530 GPU for graphics. The device sports a 16-megapixel 4-axis OIS camera on the back, and ships with a 3,000mAh non-removable battery. The 5.15-inch fullHD (1920 x 1080) display is also a part of this package, and Android 6.0 Marshmallow comes out of the box here, with Xiaomi’s MIUI 7 OS available on top of Google’s offering.
