While the final build of the next version of Android is still likely a couple of months away from release, Google’s update from Marshmallow can still be tested in the form of the Android N developer preview for those who like to get a taste of new features before they hit all users. Android developer previews are of course, experimental builds more or less, which is most likely part of why they have been limited to Nexus devices these past couple years. Not too long ago though it was hinted at that the Android N dev preview may just end up on non-nexus devices, making this the first time a non-nexus phone would be able to test out this early build software.
This week, that rumor came true with Sony pushing out a build of the Android N developer preview for the D6603 and D6653 models of the Xperia Z3. This is still a huge limitation though and there are plenty of device owners out there who surely want the chance to test the dev preview as well, the question is which non-nexus device do you feel should get the Android N dev preview next? There are quite a few devices which would be more than suitable to receive it from various manufacturers, but it all comes down to whether or not Google or the OEM would push out the dev preview themselves, and how much work would be involved in completing such a task, and whether or not all that work would be worth the time and effort that would need to be put in.
