Huawei has managed to grow quite a bit in the last couple of years. This China-based company is currently one of the heavyweights in the mobile industry, Huawei is the third-largest smartphone manufacturer in the world. The company not only manufactures smartphones, tablets, smartwatches and fitness trackers, but they also develop their very own Android-based UI, and mobile processors. Huawei’s Kirin 950 64-bit octa-core SoC is quite a powerful chip, and it has been utilized in the company’s Mate 8 flagship which was introduced at the end of last year. Well, its variation, the Kirin 955, has been launched alongside the Huawei P9 and P9 Lite devices a couple of days ago, and it’s somewhat more powerful than its sibling, it’s essentially an overclocked Kirin 950.
That being said, the Kirin 955 managed to beat MediaTek’s Helio X20 processor according to recently surfaced benchmarks, and interestingly enough, this chip also managed to beat the Snapdragon 820 in the multi-core test. All in all, the Kirin 955 is a very powerful SoC, and it’s a shame only Huawei’s device get a chance to use it, at least at this very moment, we do hope more manufacturers will get aboard the Kirin train. Anyhow, the Kirin 960 is expected to be announced before the end of this year, even though we don’t know when exactly. Well, a China-based analyst, Pan Jiutang, had some Kirin 960 remarks to share with the public. The analyst says that the Kirin 960 will be quite similar to the Kirin 950 / 955, he also added that the biggest change will happen on the network side of things. What did he mean by that? Well, it is quite possible Huawei intends to integrate the model with the SoC itself, similar to what Qualcomm did with the newer Snapdragon chips.
So, according to this info, the Kirin 960 will probably remain an octa-core chip, though we can expect some changes, fo course. This chip will almost certainly offer a higher clock speed than its siblings, though it remains to be seen what changes exactly will Huawei make this time around. Either way, stay tuned, we’ll let you know as soon as more info surfaces.
