If you own the NVIDIA SHIELDTablet K1, then chances are you might have seen an update already arrive on your device today. If not, then you likely will in due course, as NVIDIA has now confirmed that an update is being pushed out to their latest tablet, the Tegra K1-powered Tablet K1.
One of the headline feature is that the update brings with it support for the Vulkan API, which coincidentally, has also now been included in an update which is currently rolling out today as part of the Android N Developer Preview 2 for Nexus devices. In terms of the SHIELD Tablet K1, this will likely prove very useful in particular, for gameplay and graphic rendering. In addition to the Vulkan API support, the update does include a number of Android 6.0.1 specific aspects like a change of positioning to the navigation buttons when in a landscape mode, updated emojis, as well as added features like ‘Do Not Disturb Until Next Alarm’ and the ability to now double tap the power button to launch the Camera app.
In fact, they are just the bigger noted aspects of the update as the changelog also goes on to include multiple specific fixes and improvements including better support for Android Marshmallow’s Doze, USB MIDI support, improvements to the memory compression and Wi-Fi connectivity. As well as fixes for Compass, Gamepad Mapper issues, a fix for an issue some may have experienced when trying to play Doom 3 when outputted through HDMI and a fix for those who have experienced issues with moving content from the internal storage to the SD card. If any of these specific issues sound relative to your experiences with the Tablet K1, then chances are this update will solve those problems.
As already noted the update is in the process of rolling out now, so if you have yet to see it arrive, then you will do soon enough. If you own the original SHIELD Tablet, then NVIDIA has also confirmed that a similar update will be rolling your way in the coming weeks.
