Android Auto earlier this month expanded to about 17 new countries. But today, Google has quietly expanded Android Auto over to Mexico. Which is nice to see, especially with Android Auto launching in many more countries as of late. Android Auto is now available in over 20 countries, many of which are in North America, South America and Europe. With the update to the Android Auto website this week, Google also took the opportunity to fix a few typos on the site. Where they spelled Guatemala and Columbia incorrectly. Nice to see that getting fixed up quickly. Although there is still a typo under the cars section. Where it lists that the 2016 Audi Q7 is getting Android Auto, but there is no 2016 model. They skipped 2016 and launched the 2017 model.
Since Android Auto is expanding to a slew of new countries as of late, this doesn’t mean that Android Auto still isn’t considered beta. It definitely is. There is still plenty of issues with Android Auto, but none of them should really affect your driving. We’ve been using Android Auto for about a year and haven’t had any sort of weird bugs that caused the thing to crash at all. We are seeing Android Auto come to many more cars, both in the form of the built-in infotainment system as well as the after market head units from the likes of Pioneer, JBL, Kenwood and others.
If you’re interested in Android Auto, it’s definitely worth it to check out the Google support page to see what Google says about the service. For those that are unaware, it is basically just a service that takes your smartphone and projects it onto a larger screen in the car. Think of it as plugging in a laptop to a monitor at your desk. Although when you plug it into Android Auto, you do get a slightly different interface, and that is to make it easier to use when in the car and driving, since that’s what Android Auto is there for. Google’s support page also lists all of the cars and trucks that are coming with Android Auto. There’s a good number of 2016 and 2017 models that are already available with Android Auto.
