AT&T's New 'Triple Play' Can Save Customers Up To 40%

AT&T’s DIRECTV acquisition has proven to be a good business decision for the U.S. second largest wireless carrier, spawning quite a few promotions for AT&T customers to take advantage of since the initial announcement and close of the sale. Back in the beginning of December AT&T had confirmed that it would eventually be phasing out the DIRECTV branding and name, and would end up rolling their services into its own for one cohesive offering of features and plan packages. That phase out looks to be happening as of now with AT&T’s newly announced Triple Play plan package, which AT&T states can save customers up to a total of 40% by signing up for home internet, TV, and home phone services.

In addition to saving customers more money each month if they sign up for all three services as opposed to just one or two, AT&T is locking in the price for monthly cost for every customer for a guaranteed 24 months, after which point the service cost is subject to change should AT&T end up shifting the plan costs at that time. What customers will be paying each month is $50 for AT&T’s DIRECTV Select package, which is just cable TV, and it must be added on to an existing or new eligible AT&T service plan.

When added to home internet, the cost goes from $50 a month to $80 a month as the cost of internet as an add-on is $30, and AT&T is dropping the cost of home voice to $9.99 a month when added to these services, which brings the total monthly cost for the Triple Play to $90 a month. All three services are locked in at that price for two years guaranteed so customers won’t be looking at any pricing alterations for at least that long, and there’s always a chance that AT&T will end up offering customers the opportunity to extend that pricing for a longer period of time when it nears the two-year mark, although they haven’t said as much. If you’re already an AT&T customer and you were either considering DIRECTV or already have one of the services, this is probably a deal worth considering.
