BlackBerry PRIV April Security Update Now Available

Earlier today Google announced details of the latest round of security updates that are now available for Nexus devices, including the release of the factory images ready for download and installation. The latest update includes all the most current vulnerability fixes and comes in the form of the April security update. Following which and consistent with what happens every month now, a number of other handset partners will likely be pushing out similar updates to their devices including the fixes in the coming days and weeks. If you are the owner of a BlackBerry PRIV smartphone, then it looks like your latest security-driven update is now already available to download and install.

BlackBerry has sent out a post this morning detailing the April security fix and one which brings with it a number of the fixes included by Google, as well as a number of fixes specific to their handsets. The latest update comes in the form of build number AAE298 and for those who purchased their handset directly from BlackBerry, the updatae is immediately available to download. For those that purchased elsewhere or through a carrier, there are currently no details on when the update will be ready for your device. Although it is likely those non-direct BlackBerry updates will need time before they are ready for consumers.

On a slightly related note, today also saw BlackBerry announcing the start of their beta testing for Android 6.0 (Marshmallow). So if you have been waiting for Marshmallow to arrive on your PRIV handset and are happy to help out as part of a testing phase, then the Beta program is now live and you can download and install the latest commercially released version of Android on your handset. Although, once again, this program is only available to select unlocked versions of the PRIV and not those who purchased a carrier variant. Those interested in finding out more about the Marshmallow PRIV beta program can do so by reading the earlier coverage.
