Now that the HTC 10 is official and we know all of the specs and features of the device, it’s time to dive in and take a closer look at the battery that is powering the show on this new flagship. HTC is tossing in a 3,000mAh battery inside, which is the same size as the Samsung Galaxy S7’s battery and the Galaxy S7 has a slightly smaller display at 5.1-inches. The HTC 10 has a 5.2-inch 2560×1440 resolution display and is powered by the Snapdragon 820 processor, which is far less power-hungry than the Snapdragon 810 used in last year’s flagship, the HTC One M9. Last year, HTC also had a 2840mAh battery inside, so it’s a slightly larger one, but not that much larger.
A 3,000mAh battery should be enough to get you through the day with the HTC 10. It likely won’t give you some crazy good numbers on the battery life screen, but it should be enough. Now since HTC is using the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, that means Quick Charge 3.0 is included. This is HTC’s second device with Quick Charge 3.0, behind the HTC One A9. What this means is you’ll be able to top off your new smartphone faster than ever before. Qualcomm states that you can charge from 0% to 80% in about 35 minutes. With this size battery, you should be able to go from 0% to 100% in about an hour and a half. Pretty close to the LG G5’s time, which also has Quick Charge 3.0, and a slightly smaller battery.
With this being an aluminum unibody design, the battery on the HTC 10 is not removable. But that shouldn’t be news to HTC fans. Seeing as HTC hasn’t had a removable battery for quite a few years. In fact their last smartphone with a removable battery was the HTC Sensation which was released all the way back in 2011 (and for those that are wondering, that was a 1520mAh battery). While there is no removable battery, the fact that the battery should last you all day long, coupled with Quick Charge 3.0 technology, you should be able to get by without the need of being attached to a charger for too long.
It’s also worth noting that HTC says not all regions will get the Quick Charge 3.0 charger in the box. This is likely to save costs in some regions, and is something that other manufacturers have done as well. But you can still pick one up from Amazon pretty cheap.
