With what seems to be an unstoppable appetite for virtual reality and 360-degree video content, as well as the number of headsets, readers and viewers that are coming though, a number of apps are constantly being updated to support the new platforms. The latest of which is the CNN app which has now been updated to version 2.9 and is an update which brings with it support for 360-degree videos within the app.
Not all videos within the app will be supported, so once you update or install the new version, you might have to search a bit to find some of the 360-degree video content. However, once you do, you can simply click the 360 link, rotate the phone to a landscape position and watch away. In addition, it seems this update is also bringing with it support for Chromecast. So as well as watching in 360-degrees on your smartphone, you can also now cast the app to your big screen TV. While the 360-video content is a nice and modern inclusion, for some, the Chromecast support is likely to be a feature which is long overdue. Although, the fact that it has come with these two big features being supported, does mean that this is quite a decent update for those who make use of the CNN app.
In terms of the update, the two bigger features do seem to be the bulk of the update and although the typical ‘bug fixes and improvements’ are not listed, it does seem likely that there will be some lurking within the update. Either way, the Play Store listing details that the update went live as of yesterday, so if you already have the app installed there is a good chance that the update has already arrived on your device or at the very least, is waiting for you to approve and install.
